In the books Edmure Tully delays the Mountain and Tywin from crossing the river, allowing them Renly Baratheon. The youngest of the Baratheon siblings, Renly was built up as a potentially formidable player in the War of the Five Kings before his abrupt demise in season 2, a move some Game of Thrones fans think ruined the character.
